NEW DELHI, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- India will host a three-day international
conference from September 12 on cyber crimes with the Internet being
increasingly used by terrorists and trans-national criminals.
The meet at Delhi organised by India's Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI), will be attended by about 100 representatives from more than 40
countries, a CBI statement said here today.
The CBI is the nodal body in India for training various law enforcement
agencies in investigating cyber crime.
The conference would also have participation from various international
organisations like United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime
Prevention, Council of Europe, Europol, and United Nations Interregional Crime
Research Institute, the statement said.
Several state-run and private IT companies would also take part in the meet.
"Combating cyber crime demands a certain minimum level of uniformity while
the issue of transnational cooperation gets compounded by the absence of
uniform provisions of law due to difference in legal systems and lack of
uniform perception of the problem," the CBI statement said.
"The cyber criminals exploit weaknesses in the law and enforcement
procedures and practices of different nations, which exposes all nations to
dangers that are beyond their unilateral capacity to respond. The meet is
aimed at harmonising global response to cyber crimes," the CBI said. (end)
